Safe travels

Our journey quickly became complicated. Due to bad weather, there were limited seats for arrival at the usually crowded Heathrow, which meant departing almost an hour later than originally planned. When we finally arrived, the lady at security sent us straight away saying we had no chance of catching our connecting flight.

Luckily, we found another flight just five and a half hours later, which we all miraculously fit on. So we spent a good part of the day at London airport and didn't leave until the afternoon. Even the flight to Houston was not without its problems. Unlike the two transatlantic flights the week before, this time instead of a tailwind we had to face unpleasant perpendicular winds that made the flight take a full 11 and a half hours. As a result, we didn't arrive until 8am US time, which for us was over 24 hours from the time we had to get up. Because of our considerable fatigue, we didn't even have the strength to be mad that all but two of our suitcases hadn't arrived. Considerably relieved, we took the overcrowded bus downtown, sharing seats with the local working population and getting to know America from yet another perspective. After the bus, we still used the local tram, and it had almost reached our accommodation. We arrived there 4 hours after the plane landed, so we were fed up with the journey and entered our accommodation after midnight. This too had a surprise for us. Our rooms for five have only two double beds. Overwhelmed by the harrowing journey, we laid down and slept until morning.
